Spruce Up the 'Berg Grants
The Foundation awarded $150,000 in “Spruce Up the ‘Berg” funding in spring 2023 after local Advisory Council members recognized a desire in the community to clean-up, beautify and celebrate local pride in the County. This grant opportunity was designed to award funds that would help meet that need. The program encourages Muhlenberg County residents to make a difference in their own neighborhoods and downtowns by beautifying or reimagining public spaces. To ensure that the projects chosen were in line with the needs of communities across the entire county, all Spruce Up the ‘Berg applications were reviewed, scored, and selected by a nine-person committee comprised of Muhlenberg County residents representing Bremen/South Carrolton, Rosewood/Dunmor/Lake Malone, Beechmont/ Beech Creek/Belton, Cleaton, Powderly, Drakesboro/Browder, Graham, Central City, and Greenville.
Nearly 30 spruce initiatives received awards across various parts of the county, with projects taking place over the course of the year. A full list of projects which received funding is included below.
