Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation receives TDEA Friend of Education Award

The Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation was selected to receive the 2013 Friend of Education Award from the Third District Education Association.  Each year the TDEA give a Friend of Education Award to a person or group who has made an outstanding contribution to public education. 

This year Philip Oliver, a teacher at Muhlenberg County High School West Campus, nominated the Foundation for its very generous support and grants to the citizens of Muhlenberg County.  Since January 2009, the Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation has made grants totally almost $3 million directly to Muhlenberg County public schools, with an additional $718,000 in grants to student educational programs.   Significant recent grants have included $2 million in grants to support the construction of Felix E. Martin, Jr. Hall and the Tech Wing at Muhlenberg County High School West Campus.  Additional grants have included funding for technology purchases, literacy and arts programs, as well as support for Family Resource Centers at each school. 

The award was accepted by Vicki Yonts, Program Director at the Felix E. Martin, Jr. Foundation on Tuesday, April 30 at the TDEA Spring Delegate Assembly.

TDEA is the local district chapter of the Kentucky Education Association which, since its founding in 1857, has acted as a champion for public education and children in Kentucky.  Membership consists of school employees throughout the state, including current, retired and aspiring teachers, administrators, as well as members of the Workforce Development Cabinet.
